The Potowatomi tribe struck a deal with the city of Milwaukee and an Indian school complex here to open a little bingo hall with some slot machines years ago to help out the Indian school, which was falling apart, broke, and begging for money. This was the only off-reservation indian gambling that was allowed in Wisconsin, and it turned into a gold mine. They were packing the people in for the bingo, and the handful of machines (I think it was less than a hundred) were always busy with people waiting to get a machine on weekends. When the compact with the state government was renewed a couple of years ago, the city, state, local anti-gambling groups and the indians fought tooth and nail before the place got permission to expand into a medium sized casino with many more machines and blackjack. Given this history, you can see how at first they didn't need a players club to promote use of the machines. Finally, they had a club that cost $10 to join and got you certain benefits. I refused to pay it. Then as they started to put in machines while they built the new casino, they took what were the old cards and let people join for free but charged two or three bucks for a replacement. These were the cards with a photo on the front and ther player's name and birth-date on the back. About a year ago they put the new "Fire Keeper's Club" into effect. I still find an old card once in awhile, but they can be really beat up. The new ones I have for trade, as they are pretty easy to get.
